Kyomachi International Broadcast
Hello! My name is Seth Mberego. I come from Zimbabwe, in southern Africa. I have lived in Japan for over 10 years. I enjoy teaching children.
Every afternoon we have a short English broadcasting program called, “Kyomachi International Broadcast”. This is a continuation of English Beat Station that was started last year by the principal, Mr. Shintani.
The program starts with greetings and talk about the weather and date. This is followed by some questions to help students interact in English. For example: What time did you get up? How did you come to school? What animal do you like? I also do a 3 hint quiz. For instance, “I have four legs, my color is black and white, and I like to run. Who am I?” Every day I make some minor variations in the questions to help students improve their listening skills, and to make the program interesting.
We are also continuing to do the “Happy Birthday Call” when we have students’ birthday. It is a special experience for students to hear their names mentioned and to hear the Happy Birthday song played.
As this broadcast is over the intercom system, I cannot hear the students` replies. However, I hope that students can improve their listening, vocabulary and comprehension skills. I was surprised during break time a student asked me the same questions.
Gradually we will introduce some new themes so that our students can further improve their English level.
Thank you for your time.
